A food desert, the USDA defines it as any urban neighborhood has to travel more than a mile to reach a grocery store. These food desserts exist in every State, impacting over 23.5 million people, disproportionately effecting the black community. Also the areas are also exclusively low-income. Our access to healthy fruits and vegetables can not only effect your immune system, but can cause obesity, diabetes, heart disease and even long-term cancers.
